Interpretive Services Program

Interpretive Services Program

The goal of the Interpretive Services program is to improve access to culturally and linguistically appropriate health services throughout Coalition Clinics. Made possible through a grant from Pacific Source, the program is dedicated to training both Coalition Clinic staff and volunteers in intensive health care interpretation. Reducing barriers to access-needed health services is a joint goal of the Coalition and PacificSource. This program:

  • provides interpretive services for specialty referral services
  • recruits and places volunteer interpreters within the Coalition Clinics
  • offers appropriate medical terminology and cultural/linguistic competency training
  • offers training at Portland Community College’s Healthcare Interpretive Training Program to clinic staff through a scholarship program

Medical Interpreters Needed

Medical interpreter volunteers make a vital difference in ensuring that our patients receive high quality health care services. Many of our clinics rely on volunteers due to financial constraints. These volunteers help providers and patients work together to promote effective cross-cultural communication. The Coalition offers testing as well as cultural, ethics and linguistic training to committed volunteers.
